A. Plautius. AR Denarius, 55 BC. Obv. A. PLAVTIVS AED. CVR. S.C. Turreted head of Cybele right. Rev. Bacchius kneels right, with camel at his side, extending olive branch; in exergue, BACCHIVS; on right, IVDAEVS. Cr. 431/1; B. 13. 4.03 g. 17.00 mm. Scarce. Sound metal and full weight. Superb light iridescent tone, with blue highlights. Some striking weakness, otherwise. good VF. Bacchius, unknown to history under that name at least, might be Aristobulos II of Jerusalem (who submitted to Pompey) or Dionysios of Tripolis.
