Britannicus, son of Claudius and Messalina (died 55 AD). AE 'Sestertius'. Later fabrication, most likely 19th or 20th century. Obv. TI CLAVDIVS CAESAR AVG F BRITANNICVS. Bare-headed, draped bust right. Rev. S-C. Mars advancing left, holding spear and shield. From one to four o'clock, traces of legend: [ ]VG PM TR P IMP [ ]. Cf. RIC I p. 130, note; cf. BMC RE (Claud.) 226. 33.35 g. 39.00 mm. An attractive and interesting example: a counterfeiting with traces of undertype (?). Dark green-brown patina. About EF.
